Facts and Friction!

We have had a busy today in Mr. Taaffe’s room. All students brought in toy cars or anything with wheels to take part in an investigation.

The groups began by sketching their cars and estimating how far their car might travel on carpet and on the desk after being propelled down a ramp.

The children built ramps using school books.

Crazy Cookbooks!

An tUasal Táth 2, English  Tagged , No Comments »

The budding chefs of second and third class have been busy for the month of January creating crazy cookbooks. This has helped us learn the steps that accompany procedural writing or how to do something.

We spent Friday morning making the base of our cheesecake before constructing our lemony topping. We placed this in the fridge to set for several hours before devouring it at 2.30pm.

We have made a video with a selection of recipies and all our cookbook covers.

Our Daily Weather Record

Geography, Science  Tagged , No Comments »

Second and third class have spent a month recording the weather on a daily basis. The students were divided up into groups and took turns drawing pictures to illustrate the day’s weather. We also made rain gauges to establish the level of rainfall over the same period. We hope you enjoy our video!

Pola and Caoimhe with our thermometers

Second and third class are learning about temperature and how to use thermometers to record this information. The students picked several locations inside and outside the school building to investigate.

How we recorded our estimates and findings

These locations included the class room, the general purpose room, Mrs. McGourty’s room, the Bug Hotel, the school garden and the bottom of the school yard.

Dáithí and Brooklyn investigating the temperature in Mrs. McGourty’s room

Groups began by estimating the temperature in each location. We then proceeded to record the actual temperature in all these areas.
