James (5th class), assisted by Declan (6th class), visited Ms.O’Kelly’s room this afternoon, to give a presentation on farming to the class. He talked about farm animals including Beltex and Suffolk sheep, Simmental and Belgian Blue cows and machinery including quads and tractors. Once upon a time we had many pupils from farming backgrounds in Drumlease N.S., but this has declined a lot in recent years.

We held our February assembly today. Mr. O’Farrell spoke about being careful when we walk home from school and being gentle on the yard.
It was Internet Safety Day yesterday and all parents at the assembly got a booklet about how to be safe online. Mr. O’Farrell said that all the classes will be doing an activity about being safe when using the internet.
Mr. O’Farrell read out lots of good things about people in our school as an Leabhar Óir. He was very happy about students allowing the teachers to get past when going out to the yard. Our school is closing at two o’clock today which is 14:00 on the 24 hour clock.
Ms. O’Kelly’s class spoke about how people are different from each other. They sang a song and we have a few videos here for you to enjoy.
There was great excitement in the Junior and Senior Infant classroom this morning. We have been learning about the ‘Vet’ as part of our Aistear and we had a visit from Susi, a veterinary surgeon at the Well Pet Hospital in Carraroe. She brought along her cat, Cavi, and her dog, Chewy. We got to listen to their heartbeats with the stethoscope.
Chewy even did some tricks for us. We had a really great time! Susi reminded us that if we see an animal always check with their owner before you try to rub it. Some dogs can be afraid of children and may get cross. She also told us if in doubt to phone the vet. Never give your pet human medicine! Thank you very much Susi, Cavi and Chewy! 🙂 We really enjoyed having you in our classroom.
