Debating in Rang a Sé

Debating, Mrs Brennan No Comments »

Yesterday 6th class pupils James, Dearbhile, Emma, Niall and Luke took on Diffreen NS debating team. Over the past few weeks the pupils have been sharpening their skills preparing arguments using facts and sound research.  They have been practising their communication skills delivering speeches and defending points they make.  It has been a great challenge listening to opposing view-points and learning how to refute and rebut.  The children have been super in preparing for our debate.  It has been a great class effort. Arguing against the motion ‘Ireland is the best country in the world’ was Drumlease NS. Both sides put forward clearly articulated points but in the end the debate was won by Diffreen NS. Thank you to Noleen Rooney from Carrick-on-Shannon Education Centre who adjudicated the debate.

Congratulations to the girls from 4th, 5th and 6th class who participated in Cumann na mBunscoil. The girls played two away matches  against Carrigallen and Drumcong. The girls put up a valiant performance on both occasions but unfortunately it was not to be. Carrigallen and Drumcong will now play each other in the final. We wish them well.

Parent Partnership

Mrs Brennan, Parents No Comments »

We are fortunate in Drumlease NS to have parents who give willingly and generously of their time and expertise. Over the last few weeks a group of parents gathered together to power-wash and paint the railings and steps at the front of the school. Parents also helped out with the maintenance of the school garden. On Saturday, parents from 1st and 3rd classes joined together to ensure that the celebration held in the GP room after First Holy Communion was a very special one for all the boys and girls and their families. To everyone who helped out we say “Míle Buíochas”.

Congratulations to the boys and girls in Rang a Dó who made their First Holy Communion last Saturday 12th May in Dromahair Church. The Liturgy was greatly enhanced by the school choir who performed beautifully on the day under the guidance of Mrs Gilroy and accompanist Ronan McGurrin.

We acknowledge the work undertaken by the teachers in preparing the children for the Sacraments. We would also like to thank Fr. Anthony and you the parents in supporting your child in their faith journey.
