We were delighted to have Tom Knipe and a colleague from Abbott in to speak at Drumlease National School today.

The students of third and fourth class learned all about Abbott and the robotic assembly lines that are in use today. Students learned about the various kinds of engineering work that it is possible to aspire to. We studied electrical circuits and worked in small groups to connect wires to make bulbs light up and a working FM radio. Dáithí was the proud winner of a K’nex set after getting the top score in the quiz. View our photos and videos below.

Print with Cróna

Artist in residence Cróna Gallagher visited our school today and taught us about the magic of print.

Cróna brought various types of fish which students from third and fourth class used to create a printed image.

Cróna began by pinning the fish to a sheet of kitchen roll. The fish was propped with paper into position. Ink was used to carefully cover the fish. Students used a special type of expensive piece of paper from Japan to press against the painted fish. The paper contained cloth which allowed greater flexibility without tearing. The impression made by the scales of the fish was imprinted on the paper. View our gallery to see all the action.
