The Big Travel Challenge; A Green -Schools Challenge

Active School, Green Schools, Mrs. Gilroy, Physical Activity No Comments »

Our school is participating in The Big Travel Challenge. It starts today, 12th February, and continues on, for a 10 day duration spell. As a school community we are all going to try to rise to the challenge of achieving higher numbers /scores , as we track the numbers of children and parents who Park ‘n’ Stride to school and also the children who walk to school every morning ,for 10 days.

We hope that all families will make a big effort to do their best, and rise to this challenge.

Our school is in with a chance to win lots of prize money; grant aided by the National Transport Authority, smarter travel schools and An Taisce. It would be great to win a prize!

Do try and travel sustainably if you can , but , above all, travel safely to school.

Paper Cup Phone

We are learning about sound this month in Science. We made two different phones to test how effective each phone would be. Our first phone used string and proved very effective at transmitting soundwaves. Our second phone used thread and it didn’t work at all. We guessed that this was on account of being outside, wind interfering with the sound waves and not holding the string taut enough.

Have a look at our videos to see how we got on!

Thank you Ms. Clancy

A warm Drumlease thank you to Ms. Clancy who was teaching Mrs. O’ Kelly’s Junior and Senior Infants during January. The children really enjoyed all the wonderful activities that they did especially their Science experiments, Investigation table and Discovery walk.

We hope that you will visit us again soon!

Ms. Kelly’s senior and first class gave an interesting insight into their daily Aistear work. Aistear involves learning through the medium of play. We learned about the different skills that the children are honing such as making connections in stories. We saw the excellent props and costumes that they use to help them enter the imaginary world. Well done to all the students who gave a great account of themselves today.

Amy created a working violin on Scratch. We are learning about string instruments and sound during the month of February in Science. To play the instrument, click on the green flag.
