Finding Nemo

We have spent the past few weeks working on our paper maché Nemos. Nemo is a clown-fish and the star of the movie Finding Nemo. We began by blowing up a balloon. We mixed half a cup of water with half a cup of flour. We then added salt to ensure our mixture wouldn’t turn mouldy. We cut newspaper into long strips before dipping them into our mixture. We then applied the paper maché to the balloon. Our balloons spent a week drying in the hot-press before we began the painting process.

Here are a few photos of our work.

2nd Class working on our Bug Hotel

Geography, Global Citizenship, Green Schools, Mrs. Gilroy No Comments »

We have a bug hotel on the school grounds at the front of our school.

It was created some years ago.

Today, Dolores O’ Conaill along with students of science, Orelia and Sarah came up to us to help us all revamp and enhance the natural habitat for the bugs and mini beasts.

Different children took in suitable materials to help make the habitat attractive for the insects; these included bamboo sticks, leaves, tiles, twigs, cardboard, toilet rolls, and roof tiles.

Dolores shared her knowledge with us on many different mini beasts and their characteristics.

We learned that insects ,plants and animals are all connected to one another. The sun is our primary energy source.

In the afternoon, we all took time to create attractive bug hotel signs.

If you visit our school, you will have a chance to see our creations.

We understand that we all have a duty to look after and care for our environment.

Thank you to our visitors who came along today.

It was a very enjoyable morning.
